Located in the center of Shima-cho and facing the open ocean, Wagu Fishing Port boasts one of the largest catches within Mie Prefecture.
Wagu is also characterized by its catch of high-quality seafood such as spiny lobster, abalone, bonito, squid, yellowtail, red snapper and grunt as these are caught by gill net, Ama divers, and pole-and-line fishing.
Ama’s diving, followed by bonito fishing called Kenken starts in springtime, and the fishery industry will be in its peak season during early summer.
The open season for spiny lobster starts in October. The red gill net spreads out and colors the fishing port until the end of spring.
