Wagu fishing port

Beautiful and colorful gill nets

Wagu Fishing Port, located in the center of Shima Town and facing the open sea, is one of the largest fishing ports in Mie Prefecture.
Seafood is caught by gill nets, divers, and single line fishing, and many high-end fish such as lobsters, abalone, bonito, squid, yellowtail, sea bream, and char are caught here.
In spring, the ama fishing season opens, followed by the katsuo (bonito) fishing season, which reaches its peak in early summer.
In October, the Ise lobster fishing ban is lifted, and the bright red gill nets add color to the fishing port all at once, continuing until spring.
